Iron Bowl Weekend!!

Hey friends! Welcome back to my blog. This week’s story is about my time at Auburn University. And let’s just say it was an eventful time...

My whole life my dad taught me three important things; 1. Never let a boy mistreat you. 2. Always keep your grades up. And the most important thing, Always root against Auburn no matter who they play. Now some might call that excessive, but I think my dad was just trying to make sure I didn’t make mistakes that I would soon regret in life.

Me and my girls from Tuscaloosa all decided to meet up in Auburn after Thanksgiving break to stay with a friend for the weekend. We all left our homes Friday morning to make the dreadful drive to "Cow-College" for the famous Iron Bowl matchup game, and it was one we will remember for the rest of our lives.

While all my friends went into Jordan-Hare Stadium for the game, me and my sister decided to tailgate and watch the game with some friends. We started out the game pretty strong and were leading the Tigers at the half 17-14. Now, we all knew it would be hard to play in Auburn no matter how bad Auburn football is (and they’re pretty bad). But let’s be honest, it’s the Iron Bowl, the biggest rivalry game in the country, and its competitive no matter what. So, while it would be a close game, Alabama fans, (including myself) still figured it wouldn’t be THAT close of a game. But boy were we wrong…

After the half, Auburn was beating us 21-20 going into the fourth quarter. Auburn then kicked a field goal to have a score of 24-20. With less than a minute left of the game, and the score still the same, it was looking like Alabama’s CFP hopes were gone and we were going to lose the game. That is until Jalen Milroe and Isiah Bond did something that will go down in Iron Bowl history.

Down 24-20 with less than five minutes left of the ball game, Alabama punts the ball and hopes for a miracle. That miracle came when Alabama’s linebacker Jihaad Campbell recovered the botched punt from the Auburn returner, giving Alabama the chance to score one more time.

From there, it was looking like we wasted, yet, another opportunity for a touchdown. After a fumbled snap, it made Alabama go for the touchdown on 4th and 31 with just 43 seconds left.

The ball is snapped, Milroe is looking for an open receiver and when he finds Bond, he launches the ball into the endzone, where Bond makes an unforgettable catch, giving Alabama the lead 26-24. Adding that play to the kick six and Bryce Young’s ultimate Heisman moment, it made for another unforgettable Iron Bowl game.

Will Reichard kicked for the extra point, and it was good. Making the score 27-24 Alabama. After Auburn tried to make a passing throw to one of its receivers, it was intercepted by Terrion Arnold to end the game. Alabama has once again won the Iron Bowl marking its fourth consecutive win.

After the game, me and my friends went out and enjoyed ourselves in Auburn to celebrate the Milroe Miracle win. We head back home to get some much-needed rest and woke up the next morning to finally leave the dreaded “Cow-College.”

While Alabama fans all over celebrate the win, the football team heads back to Tuscaloosa to get to work for the upcoming SEC Championship game against Georgia.
